The Golden Hearts is a ministry of Shining Light Baptist Church that offers the opportunity for the widow ladies of the church to come together in fellowship and, as God directs us in His word, to help support one another.
At least four times during the year activities are planned for the ladies to be together. Sometimes we take trips to nearby locations for a fun outing. About twenty of the ladies spent a lovely Spring afternoon enjoying tea at the O’Henry Hotel, and a delightful, crisp autumn day was spent having lunch at the Old Home Place and then visiting the Southern Supreme Fruitcake factory.
Some activities take place at the church, where we have tried to “hula” to music at a Hawaiian party, had a picnic and celebrated memories of family times together, and had a praise party to just express our love for and to God. We have enjoyed Gospel music performed by a local singing group, and of course, we always celebrate Christmas together one Saturday during the Holidays.
Whether traveling to a local area restaurant for lunch, visiting a nearby attraction, or enjoying an activity at the church, an essential part of each gathering is honoring God and being thankful for the many blessings each of us has received.
Our ministry seeks to strengthen the bonds of Christian love among ladies who have each experienced a difficult loss, provide encouragement and support, and engender a sense of belonging among a group of women who love and care about one another, and love and want to be obedient servants to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
The Widow Ladies of Shining Light Baptist Church, a ministry uniting the precious jewels of our congregation, was started in early 2009.
